Our Approach

Integrating professional and personal development

We believe that quality of life and quality of performance are thoroughly inter-connected. By integrating professional and personal development, we focus on the whole person and the whole situation.

A Unique Combination

We offer a unique combination of Nonviolent Communication™, Focusing and Mindfulness. Our trainers are among the few in the world who can combine these approaches.

All our approaches are based on increasing empathy and understanding, both with other people, and with oneself.

Aim

Our aim is to make work a meaningful expression of people at their best. We believe this is the only way to increase genuine motivation and make a lasting impact on performance.

We do this by:

  • Focusing on values as the context for developing skills, and for giving individuals and organisations full ownership of their lives and learning;
  • Cultivating individuals' innate potential to develop, and to contribute significantly to themselves and others;
  • Increasing ethical sensitivity, grounding in our awareness of our choices and their consequences, and of our interconnection with others.

Our Courses

The atmosphere of our courses is relaxed and enjoyable, and the learning both stimulating and thought-provoking. Activities include interactive exercises, discussions, personal reflection and small-group role plays. As well as working from a specially tailored course handbook, participants use examples from their own experience to gain first-hand and embedded understanding of the processes of the topics. This means that participants explore issues that are current for them in a supportive environment – a process that can be both challenging and illuminating.

Our Background

Life at Work draws its inspiration from an ancient, Buddhist approach to learning and development.

At its most effective, we understand learning as:

  • ethical development, respecting the integrity, values and needs of others;
  • on-going practice, increasing our sense of fulfillment and meaning;
  • an influence in our lives and the lives of those around us – capable of transforming ourselves and our world.

"Your consultant was not merely presenting techniques, but creating the context to allow participants to develop their own techniques... [that] led to a high degree of ownership."
